Full, very dar, near-saturated black-purple colour. This is elegant, refined and tightly bound with lifted aromatic black berry fruits, black pepper, violet florals and spices on bouquet. The intense and penetrating florality grows to become a feature. Medium-bodied, elegantly concentrated and deep flavours of spicy black fruits are intermixed with violet florals, black pepper and subtle herb and oak elements. The extraction is refined and reined in and the palate flows seamlessly with a good, supple textural line and fresh, bright acidity in support. The mouthfeel is racy and the acidity carries the flavours to a long spicy, aromatic finish. This is an elegant black-fruited, aromatic Syrah with a bright and fresh flow. Serve with poultry, pork and Mediterranean fare over the next 5+ years. 80% MS, 15% Chave and 5% 470 clone fruit from the company’s Gimblett and Te Awanga sites, destemmed and fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 12 months in 30% new French oak barrels. 18.0+/20 Jan 2014 RRP $34.00
