Elephant Hill Hawke’s Bay Merlot/Malbec 2014

Blended Red from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 23-Aug-2016
Very dark, deep, black-hued purple-red colour, youthful in appearance. The nose is fine in presentation with aromas of sweetly ripe dark-red berry and plum fruit with some nuances of redcurrants, dark herbs and cassis. The aromatics are expressed with finesse and are well integrated, the oaking subtle, and nose builds in intensity with aeration. Medium-bodied, the fruit flavours of blackberries, dark-red plums, herbs and currants are bright, sweet and juicy and supported by supple, fine-grained tannins. The acidity is lacy and refreshing, and the accessible textures and mouthfeel are driven with good acid energy to a firm, tight, dry, fine-textured finish. This is an elegant, accessible Merlot/Malbec blend with black berry, currant and plum fruit, freshness and supple tannins. Match with Mediterranean lamb dishes over the next 5-6 years. A blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Malbec, two-thirds from the ‘Triangle’ vineyard and one-third from ‘Gimblett’, the wine fermented to 13.5% alc., and aged 14 months in 30% new oak. 18.0+/20 Aug 2016 RRP $34.00
