Elephant Hill Hawke’s Bay Gewurztraminer 2012

Gewurztraminer from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 12-Apr-2013
Estate fruit from Te Awanga, hand-picked, WBP and fermented with 5% in acacia wood and 30% with indigenous yeasts in seasoned French oak to 13.5% alc. and 8.5 g/L rs, the wine blended and aged 4 months in 1 y.o. oak. Bright, pale straw colour with some green hues, pale on edge. This has an open and broad nose with good depth of exotic tropical and savoury citrus fruit notes, along with underlying rose-petal and ginger elements. Off-dry to taste, broad, rich and mouthfilling flavours of savoury, sour tropical fruits intermingle with spice and ginger elements. The sweetness of the fruit is enhanced by lively acidity, and underlined by grainy textures through the palate line. This has a robustness to the mouthfeel which softens and diminishes on a moderately sustained, dry finish featuring spices and ginger. This is a broad, mouthfilling off-dry Gewurztraminer with savoury, exotic characters. Serve with Middle Eastern cuisine over the next 3-4 years. 16.5+/20 Apr 2013 RRP $29.00
