Bright, light straw-yellow colour with slight green hues, very pale on rim. The nose is elegantly proportioned with finely concentrated and intense aromas of white stonefruits and citrus fruits entwined with creamy and nutty barrel-ferment and lees elements. This is refreshing with steely, mouthwatering mineral and mealy complexities. The nose is lifted by youthful esters and floral elements, adding to the detail and poise, and the aromatics grows in harmony and integration with aeration. Medium-full bodied, the palate is elegantly concentrated and refined in expression with a core of citrus fruit and white stonefruits melded with layers of creamy, mealy and nutty barrel-ferment flavours. The fruit is enlivened and the palate vitality enhanced by fresh, lacy acidity as it flows along a fine-textured line. Nuances of oak toast and flinty complexities emerge and are carried with plenty of energy to a long and sustained, dry finish with citrus, mealy and toasty notes. This is an elegantly concentrated, refreshing Chardonnay with complex citrus, mealy and creamy, nutty flavours and plenty of energy. Match with seafood, poultry and pork over the next 5+ years. Hand-picked fruit from the ‘Te Awanga’ single vineyard, WBP and indigenous yeast barrel-fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 11 months in 25% new 228 L French oak on lees, with no MLF. 18.5+/20 Jul 2015 RRP $29.00
