Elephant Hill Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2013

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 22-Sep-2014
Bright, even straw-yellow colour with light green hues on rim. The nose is elegantly concentrated with aromas of ripe citrus and yellow stonefruits entwined with complexing nuances of nuts, toasty oak, flint and minerals forming a well-packed and proportioned core that exudes completeness. Medium-bodied and elegantly presented, fine and tightly bound flavours of ripe, savoury citrus and stonefruits are layered with mealy, nutty notes, toasty oak and flinty elements. The fruit is enlivened by crisp, lacy acidity and the flavours build in intensity. Fine phenolic textures and grip emerge to provide structure and linearity, carrying the wine to a dry, lively finish. This is an elegant and tightly held Chardonnay with savoury citrussy fruit and balanced complexing nuances and textures. It will become richer over the next 4+ years. Match with barbecued and roasted seafood, poultry and pork. Hand-picked from the Te Awanga vineyard, WBP, indigenous yeast barrel-fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 11 months on lees in 25% new French oak barriques. 18.0+/20 Sep 2014 RRP $29.00
