Elephant Hill Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2012

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 28-Jan-2014
Brilliant straw-yellow colour with some depth and light golden hues, pale edged. The bouquet is very fresh and aromatic with elegant and pure white stonefruit notes, revealing citrus fruit and minerals, along with subtle layers of nuts, toasty oak and steely, seaside elements. Medium-full bodied, tightly bound and elegantly concentrated flavours of white stonefruits and nuts form a deep and linear, driven core. The fruit exudes a delicate sweetness which is complexed by citrus, bacony-oak and a saline tang, and balanced by fresh, lacy acidity. There is an underlying power that drives the palate to a very long, lingering and tight finish. This is a very refined, elegant and linear Chardonnay with pure white stonefruit flavours and subtle nutty, toasty layers, and freshness. Serve with seafood over the next 4-5 years. Fruit from the Te Awanga vineyard, WBP and fully-barrel-fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 11 months in 25% new 228 L Burgundian oak barrels on lees, with no MLF. 18.5/20 Jan 2014 RRP $29.00
