Very dark, black-hued ruby-red colour with youthful purple tints on the edge. The bouquet is intensely concentrated with penetrating aromas of ripe blackberry, black plum and liquorice, along with black pepper, Oriental spices, earth and minerals, and lifted oak. Medium-full bodied, the palate has rich, ripe and intense flavours of blackberries, plums, liquorice and spices with aromatic oak. The fruit richness and depth is balanced by fine-grained tannin extraction, and the mouthfeel enlivened by fresh lacy acidity. This has plenty of structure and presence, and the wine carries with drive and linearity to a long finish of liquorice and spices. This is a rich, ripe, intensely concentrated Syrah with black fruits, liquorice and spicy oak on a fine-grained palate with considerable structure, freshness and length. Match with game meat dishes and semi-hard cheeses over the next 8-10 years. Hand-picked fruit from the company’s Gimblett Gravels vineyard, fermented with 10% whole bunches to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 17 months in 35% new French oak barrels. 19.0+/20 Mar 2017 RRP $75.00
