Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 08-Nov-2018
Dark ruby-red colour with some depth, a little lighter on the rim with hints of garnet. The nose is tightly bound and a little slender in presentation initially, with fresh and firm aromas of dark-red and black cherry and berry fruit entwined with dark thyme herbs, unfolding a little liquorice and spice. The aromatics build in depth with aeration. Medium-bodied, the palate has piquant flavours of dark-red cherry and berry fruit along with dark herbs, spices and liquorice and some earthiness. The mouthfeel has vigour with grainy tannin structure and brisk acidity still to come together. The flavours form a firm core with linearity which carry the wine to a lingering, textured finish. This is a piquant, lively and textured Pinot Noir with dark cherry and berry fruit with herbs, spices and liquorice, needing a little time to come into balance. Match with lamb, beef and venison over then next 5+ years. Clones 777, 115, Abel and 10/5 from a single vineyard in Bendigo, vines 10-13 y.o., fully destemmed and indigenous yeast fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 11 months in 20% new French oak. 17.5+/20 Nov 2018 RRP $36.00
