Elephant Hill Central Otago Pinot Noir 2012

Moderately deep, purple-hued ruby-red colour, paler on edge. This has a fresh bouquet of black cherry fruit with good depth, the fruit entwined with subtle aromas of fresh herbs, violet floral perfumes and mineral notes. Medium-bodied and slender in proportion, initially light fruit flavours of red and black cherries grow in depth, richness and sweetness. Herb and floral lift add detail to the juicy palate. The tannins are fine-grained and subtly firm, and allied to the vibrant, bright fruit, provide energy to the wine, carrying the flavours to a long, lingering dry finish with cherry and minerally nuances. This is an elegant, accessible, cherry-fruited Pinot Noir with a good energy. Serve with poultry and pork over the next 4+ years. Fruit from Tarras and Alexandra, destemmed, given a cold soak and fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 25% new French oak. 17.5/20 May 2014 RRP $34.00
