Elefante Vino de la Tierra de Castilla Tempranillo/Shiraz 2012

Tempranillo from Spain
Review Date : 25-Sep-2014
70% Tempranillo and 30% Shiraz from Castilla La Mancha from 20 y.o. bush vines, the wine fermented to 14.0% alc., 15% of the blend being Tempranillo from San Vicente, Rioja, aged in barrel. Full, dark, deep, purple-hued ruby-red colour. The nose is up-front and concentrated with softly packed aromas of bright dark red berry fruits entwined with dark herbs, black pepper and complexing notes of earthy plums, unfolding raspberry liqueur and jam notes. Medium-full bodied, well-concentrated and deep flavours of dark raspberries and ripe plums are interwoven with dark herbs and peppery interest. The wine is rich and sweet-fruited with fine-grained tannin extraction in support, providing structure and texture. The wine flows with drive and energy to a long lingering juicy finish. This is a ripe and sweet-fruited Tempranillo-based wine with flavour interest and nuance, and a finely balanced structure. Match with beef and lamb, and Middle Eastern cuisine over the next 4+ years. 18.5/20 Sep 2014 RRP $19.99
