Elefante Vino de la Tierra Castilla Tempranillo/Shiraz 2015

Blended Red from Spain
Review Date : 13-Jan-2017
Full, even, purple-hued ruby-red colour, lighter on the rim, and youthful in appearance. Softly full on the nose, the fruit aromas of dark raspberries are restrained in expression, and entwined with herb and red liquorice nuances, unfolding red florals and a little jam. Medium-bodied, the palate is up-front with sweet and juicy flavours of dark raspberries, along with some plum and jam notes, unveiling aromatic floral and spice detail. The palate is fresh, bright and lively with light, but positive extraction lending a fine line of grip, the acidity lacy and balanced. The palate carries to a sweet and lush finish of raspberries. This is an up-front, sweet-fruited Tempranillo and Shiraz blend with aromatic raspberry fruit, on a fresh, fine-grained palate. Match with roasted and grilled red meats over the next 3+ years. 70% Tempranillo and 30% Syrah from 20 y.o. vines, 90% from Castilla La Mancha and 10% Termpranillo from San Vincente, Rioja, fermented to 14.0% alc., the Rioja portion aged in oak. Winemaker: Javier Murua. 17.5/20 Jan 2017 RRP $20.00
