El Esteco ‘Chanar Punco’ Calchaqui Valley 2012

Blended Red from Argentina
Review Date : 30-Aug-2017
Full, deep, saturated black-red colour with purple hues, very youthful in appearance. The nose is well-concentrated with intense and deep aromas of ripe blackberry and blackcurrant fruit entwined with cassis liqueur, black plums, boysenberries, herbs and exotic spices, and cedary and pencilly oak. Full-bodied, the palate has very rich and concentrated flavours of ripe blackberries and blackcurrants, melded with cassis and black plums, entwined with spices and exotic new oak cedar and lead-pencil elements. The palate has great power, the alcohol, balanced by the fruit depth, richness and considerable fine-grained, flowery tannin extraction. The concentrated flavours show great drive and linearity, carrying to a very long, lingering, textural finish of black fruits, spices and oak. This is a powerful and concentrated Malbec/Cabernet Sauvignon blend with black fruits, plenty of new oak cedar, great drive and fine-grained structure. Match with roasted and grilled game meat dishes and hard cheeses over the next 10-15 years. A blend of 65% Malbec and 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, fermented to 15.5% alc., the wine aged 18 months in new French barriques. This is a selection of the best 8 barrels. 19.0-/20 Aug 2017 RRP $54.99
