Dunleavy ‘The Strip’ ‘Single Vineyard’ Waiheke Island Cabernet/Merlot 2015

Blended Red from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 12-Apr-2018
Full, dark, deep, black-hued ruby-red colour, a little lighter on the edge. The nose is elegantly presented with intense and deep aromas of pure blackcurrant fruit along with cassis liqueur, and hints of mint and dark herbs. The aromatics are taut and finely integrated. Medium-full bodied, the palate is well-bound and elegant in expression with a fine, concentrated core of blackcurrant fruit along with notes of blackberries, cassis and piquant mint herb notes. The flavours are balanced and harmonious, unfolding nuances of pencilly oak. The fruit is supported by fine-grained tannin extraction providing good structure, with fresh, underlying acidity lending tension to the mouthfeel. The wine carries to a lingering finish with blackcurrant and herbal nuances. This is an elegantly concentrated Cabernet/Merlot blend with good depth and intensity of blackcurrant fruit with herbs and mint notes on a fresh, fine-structured palate. Serve with herb-marinated red meat dishes over the next 6 years. A blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc, fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 12 months in 20% new oak. 17.5/20 Apr 2018 RRP $45.00
