Dunleavy ‘The Grafter’ ‘Single Vineyard’ Waiheke Island Syrah 2013

Syrah from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 04-Mar-2015
Very full, near impenetrable black-red with purple hues, youthful in appearance. The nose is moderately full with a complex array of lifted aromas of spicy black berried fruits, black pepper, cedary oak and dark florals, and nuanced of reduction. Medium-full bodied, bright and lusciously juicy flavours of black berry fruits are entwined with Asian spices, black pepper and oak cedar. The fruit blossoms in richness, unveiling violet perfumes and savoury game elements. The palate flows smoothly with soft and fine-grained tannins and fresh, underlying acidity which enhances the fruit sweetness. The wine finishes dry with light spicy nuances. This is a plush, juicy and supple Syrah with lifted aromatics. Match with Middle Eastern cuisine and roasted red meats over the next 5+ years. 100% Syrah from ‘The Grafter’ vineyard, fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 12 months in French oak. 17.5/20 Mar 2015 RRP $45.00
