Dry River Martinborough Pinot Gris 2014

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Wairarapa & Wellington
Review Date : 02-Oct-2015
14.0% alc., ~21.0 g/L RS, TA 5.2 g/L, pH 3.41. Bright pale straw-yellow colour with slight green hues, pale on rim. This is elegantly presented, with fresh and tightly bound aromas of white and yellow stonefruits, initially seeming a little austere, but with very good intensity of minerals. Medium in sweetness, this has a powerful core, structure and line with excellent drive. Stonefruits and plenty of minerals and flint unfold. The palate follows a fine-textured, dry phenolic line. The flavours of stonefruits grow in richness and opulence as the wine flows, revealing honied notes. This has linearity and a dry finish. This has become a richer, more intense wine since its release a few months ago. 18.5+/20 Sep 2015 RRP $55.00 – $64.95 Bright, light straw-yellow colour with some light golden hues and a suggestion of blush, lighter on edge. The nose is fresh with soft, full aromas of ripe yellow and savoury white stonefruits entwined with gently lifted florals and nuances of honeysuckle, minerals and nuts. Medium-dry to medium in sweetness and medium-full bodied, the flavours of ripe yellow stonefruits, honeysuckle and exotic florals are restrained in expression, but form a soft, near-unctuous mouthfeel. The roundness of the palate is enhanced by soft acidity, and the wine flows smoothly, following a soft-textured core. There is some alcohol drive and power that carries the wine to a long, lingering, rich finish of stonefruits, honey and florals. This is a soft-textured, subtly rich and unctuous medium Pinot Gris to serve with Asian and Middle Eastern cuisine over the next 4+ years. Made from ‘Craighall’ and ‘Dry River Estate’ fruit, undergoing a slow, long and cool ferment to 14.0% alc. and 25 g/L RS, the wine given plenty of lees contact. 18.0+/20 May 2015 RRP $55.00
