Dry River Martinborough Chardonnay 2012

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Wairarapa & Wellington
Review Date : 01-Jul-2014
Bright, very pale straw colour. This is very soft, gentle and delicately aromatic, with very fine white stonefruit and floral fruit notes, subtly entwined, with little oaking noticeable. A more elegant expression, refined and with a tight core of detailed sweet stonefruit, citrus and nutty flavours. Piquant, pin-point acidity underlines the mouthfeel, which is delicately creamy and smooth-flowing. Between a number of powerful, complex and richer Chardonnays on show, it would be easy to overlook this. Have I done so? Classy and elegant in any regard. 18.0+/20 Jun 2014 RRP $60.95 Bright, pale straw-yellow colour with slight green hues, light on edge. The aromas are shy and taut in expression, with white stonefruits seamlessly entwined with citrus fruit, nutty oak and mineral nuances. Medium-bodied and elegantly proportioned, the fine stonefruit and citrus flavoured core builds in concentration and intensity, revealing a creaminess of texture coating the fine phenolic textures. Fine layers of interest show, with delicate, nutty oak richness emerging. The palate is underlined by lacy and enlivening acidity which carries the fruit to a very long, lingering finish. This is a very fine-featured and taut Chardonnay with seamless flavour detail and freshness. Serve with seafood and poultry over the next 4-5+years. Mendoza clone fruit from ‘Craighall’ and ‘Dry River Estate’ WBP and barrel-fermented to 13.0% alc., and aged 9 months in 11% new French oak barrels, the wine undergoing light batonnage and no MLF conversion. 225 cases made. 18.0/20 Sep 2013 RRP $54.00
