Riesling from New Zealand - Wairarapa & Wellington
Review Date : 02-Oct-2015
11.5% alc., 5.0 g/L RS, TA 8.3 g/L, pH 2.9. Bright, very pale straw colour with slight green hues, near colourless on rim. The nose is very fine and tight, showing sheer delicacy and purity of white florals, limes, minerals. The clarity is stunning, and the floral lift beautiful. Dry to taste, this is tight, pure and beautifully clear with mouthwatering white florals and limes, along with minerals. The palate is one of finesse and very fine, dry textures, following a soft phenolic line. Lovely acidity and drive, great linearity and a thirst-quenching finish. The purity and finesse are the highlights. 19.0+/20 Sep 2015 RRP $44.00 - $52.95 Bright straw-yellow colour with green-gold hues, pale on rim. The nose is beautifully elegant and pristine with tightly bound aromas of white florals, lime fruit and mouthwatering minerals, finely interwoven and softly presented. Dry to taste and light-medium bodied, the flavours of lime fruits, florals and wet-stone minerals are tightly bound and concentrated. The mouthfeel is very elegant, the purity and finesse in harmony with the soft, dry, lacy acidity. The wine flows effortlessly, with a core of fruit extraction that grows in presence and drive, carrying the floral and mineral flavours to a thirst-quenching, dry, and long-lingering finish. This is a very refined and elegant dry Riesling with pristine delicacy and intricate mouthwatering flavours. Serve as an aperitif and with seafood over the next 5-6+ years. Fruit from the ‘Craighall’ vineyard, from vines over 20 y.o., WBP and cool-fermented in stainless-steel to 11.5% alc. and 5.5 g/L RS, TA 8.0 g/l and pH 2.9. 19.0/20 Nov 2014 RRP $44.00 Bright, very pale straw-yellow with slight green hues. This has a beautifully pure nose of limes, florals and minerals, the clarity, intensity and finesse of expression simply breath taking. Very dry to taste, with just enough sweetness to provide luscious detail and poise, avoiding any sense of austerity. Pristine white florals and lime fruit, superb vibrancy and vitality, youthfully tight and taut, but hinting at the richness and character within. This will aged very well. Is it ‘Amaranth’ material? Maybe not, as it is classical rather than individual. Fruit from the ‘Craighall’ vineyard, 11.5% alc. and 5.5 g/L RS. 19.5-/20 Sep 2014 RRP $44.00
