Dry River ‘Bunch Selection’ ‘Lovat’ Martinborough Gewurztraminer 2011

Sweet Wine from New Zealand - Wairarapa & Wellington
Review Date : 26-Sep-2012
Fullish light golden colour, even and bright. The bouquet is open and broad with complex layers of savoury spices and rose petal florals intermixed with honey, dried apricots, figs and caramel, growing in depth. Very sweet to taste, waves of decadent flavours fill the palate with exotic spices and savoury florals, dried fruits, marmalade and honey, in a complex and detailed interaction of Gewurztraminer fruit and botrytis which becomes more evident in the glass. While rich and lush, the acidity shows with clarity, providing a lacy vitality and freshness, and the mouthfeel is smooth in flow and seamlessly textured. Honey, caramel and cinnamon spices feature on a long and sustained finish along with a little alcohol power. This is a complex dessert wine that combines Gewurztraminer flavours with botrytis with great interest. Match with fruit and tart desserts over the next 5-6 years. Fruit from the ‘Lovat' vineyard, late-picked in three stages, with up to 80% botrytis infection, WBP and fermented in stainless-steel to 10.5% alc. and 150 g/L rs. 18.5+/20 Sep 2012 RRP $60.00
