52% clone 5 with 667, 777 and 115 Pinot Noir, hand-picked, given a cold soak and fermented with 10% whole cluster to 13.9% alc., the wine spending 18 days on skins and aged 10 months in 30% new French oak. Dark, even ruby-red colour with hints of garnet at heart, but youthful purple hues on rim. The nose is restrained, shy and tight, with finely concentrated aromas of black cherry and black berry fruits along with subtle minerally reductive and toast nuances adding to the interest. Medium-full bodied, the palate is tightly bound and sleek in presentation, with smooth-flowing flavours of black cherry and berry fruits. The fruit is intermixed with subtle game and mineral notes, along with oak and a little earthy interest, showing some secondary development just appearing. Fine-grained, dry and flowery tannins support the fruit and along with good acid tension, lead to a soft, delicately sweet nuanced finish. 18.0-/20 Feb 2014 RRP $45.00
