Drumsara ‘Evoke’ Central Otago Pinot Noir 2014

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 07-Jun-2016
Full, even, dark ruby-red colour with youthful purple hues. The nose is well-proportioned with concentrated aromas of dark red berry and cherry fruit along with subtle nutty oak and dark thyme herb elements. This unfolds to show aromatic detail with liquorice and floral elements and a suggestion of minerals and reduction. Medium-bodied and finely concentrated, the palate is firm and tightly bound with concentrated flavours of dark raspberry and cherry fruit entwined with hints of thyme herb and red florals. The fruit richness is enhanced by integrated acid vibrancy, and supported by soft, grainy tannins, providing a balanced mouthfeel. The sweet fruit carries to a long, concentrated, lingering finish of dark red berry and cherry fruit. This is an elegantly concentrated, rich Pinot Noir with fine-grained tannin structure. Match with poultry, pork, lamb and beef over the next 5+ years. Predominantly clone 5, with 667, 777 and 115, from the ‘Drumsara’ vineyard, vines 8-10 y.o., fermented with 10% whole clusters to 13.3% alc., the wine spending 18 days on skins and aged 10 months in 10% new oak. 18.0-/20 Jun 2016 RRP $TBA
