Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 07-Jun-2016
Even, dark ruby-red colour with slight garnet hues. This has a well-packed and concentrated bouquet with vibrant and fresh aromas of ripe dark raspberry and black cherry fruit, along with subtle nuances of dark plums, harmoniously entwined with liquorice and spices. Medium-bodied, the flavours of ripe dark-red berry fruit and black cherries are mouthfilling and build to show plenty of depth, weight and presence. The fruit is balanced and integrated with the fine-grained tannin structure and soft acidity. The wine is beginning to show some resolution of the tannins, with a soft core, but the acidity enlivens the fruit and carries the flavours to a fruity, long-lingering finish with balanced texture and sweetness. This is a well-balanced Pinot Noir with rich fruit, structure and presence. Match with lamb, beef and venison over the next 5-6 years. Predominantly clone 5, with 667, 777 and 115, from the ‘Drumsara’ vineyard, vines 8-10 y.o., fermented with 10% whole clusters to 13.9% alc., the wine spending 18 days on skins and aged 10 months in 10% new oak. 18.5/20 Jun 2016 RRP $TBA
