Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 12-Jun-2016
Bright, light golden-yellow colour with some depth, lighter edged. This has a full and softly expressed nose with gently ripe and lifted aromas of tropical fruits, yellow stonefruits, exotic florals and honied notes. With aeration a steely, mineral aspect emerges along with nutty lees. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, rich flavours of savoury, exotic yellow stonefruits and tropical fruits fill the palate, revealing spice notes, musk and honey. The fruit richness is balanced by some nutty firmness from the lees, and some alcoholic power carries the near unctuous line, with soft acidity in the background. The savoury flavours unfold to show a little nutty, bitterness on the finish. This is a moderately rich and exotic dry Pinot Gris with rounded textures and some power, along with some savoury and bitter detail on the finish. Serve with Middle Eastern fare over the next 3+ years. Hand-picked fruit from the ‘Lone Hill’ vineyard, cool-fermented in stainless-steel to 13.0% alc. and 2 g/L RS, the wine aged on lees. 17.5/20 May 2016 RRP $23.00
