Dow’s ‘Fine’ Tawny Port

Fortified Port Style from Portugal
Review Date : 21-May-2013
Garnet red colour with tawny hues, and some ruby hints. The nose is soft and up-front with good depth of earthy, dried brown fruits, figs, nuances of nuts and raisins. Sweet to taste, soft dried fruit flavours intermingle with ripe fresh fruits. The wine is accessible with clean spirit and a slight textural grip that provides good power and line. The mouthfeel is soft and easy, and the flavours lead to a dry, fruity-nutty finish. This is a classical, easy tawny port with some fruit influence. This is an after-dinner style with mild cheeses or baked desserts. A 3 y.o. blend aged in small oak casks, 19.0% alc. 16.5/20 May 2013 RRP $39.95 Aged in oak casks for an average of 3 years. Tawny colour with slight garnet hues on heart, orange on edge. The nose is light with subtle dried brown fruits and nutty aromas, a little muskiness apparent. Sweet on palate, this has light, uncomplicated dried fruit flavours and moderate weight. The spirit stands out a little and along with restrained tannins, the texture is firm and drying. The wine is linear and straightforward. This is a light, drier style Tawny. 16.0-/20 Jun 2012 RRP $41.95
