Domaine-Thomson ‘Explorer’ Central Otago Pinot Noir 2015

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 02-Sep-2016
Moderately deep, ruby-red colour with light purple hues, pale edged. The nose is initially light in expression, quite taut and tightly bound with aromas of dark red cherry and berry fruit, the concentrated core unfolding notes of thyme herbs, soft red floral perfume and raspberry liqueur. Medium-bodied, the palate features a moderately concentrated heart of ripe dark raspberry and cherry fruit along with subtle notes of fresh and dark herbs. The fruit grows in sweetness and the palate builds in body and presence with good tannin extraction which carries with drive to a lingering finish of raspberries and herbs. This is a dark raspberry and herb flavoured Pinot Noir which grows in richness, concentration and body in the glass. Match with lamb, beef and venison dishes over the next 4-5 years. Clone 5, 6, 115, 667 and 777 fruit primarily from the top terrace ‘Moon Block’, vines planted 2003, indigenous yeast fermented to 13.5% alc. with 15% whole bunches, the wine aged 10 months in a new cuve and seasoned barrels. 17.0/20 Sep 2016 RRP $29.00
