Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 30-Jan-2015
Moderately deep, dark ruby-red colour with lighter garnet hues on rim. The bouquet is light and elegant with aromas of soft red berry fruits and lifted red florals, along with subtle thyme herb nuances. The nose is intricate and detailed with a suggestion of secondary dried herbs. Medium-bodied, light and attractively aromatic flavours of soft red berry fruits are entwined with thyme herb and dried herb elements. The fruit is sweet and the palate is supple, supported by fine, grainy, sinewy tannins. The wine flows with good acid tension, carrying the flavours to a sustained finish with good dry line. This is an elegant, red-fruited, sweetly aromatic Pinot Noir with a sinewy-textured palate. Serve with antipasto, salmon, tuna and poultry over the next 4-5 years. Clones 113 and 115 hand-picked, destemmed and given a cold soak, fermented to 14.18% alc., the wine aged 9 months in 33% new French oak barriques. 140 dozen made. 17.5/20 Jan 2015 RRP $38.00
