Domaine La Barroche ‘Signature’ Chateauneuf-du-Pape 2008

Grenache from France - Rhone
Review Date : 20-Dec-2012
Fruit from 12 ha, 81% Grenache, 11% Syrah, 8% Cinsault, vines 18-100+ y.o., fermented to 15.0% alc., the wine aged 18 months in foudre and tank. Full, dark, deep ruby-red colour with garnet hues. The bouquet is restrained and soft with aromas of savoury red berry fruits and lifted red florals, unfolding interwoven detailed nuances of garrigue herb and game. Full bodied and well-proportioned, ripe flavours of red plums and savoury red berry fruit are complexed by hints of meat, sandalwood, dried herbs and earth that unfold in subtle waves with breathing. The extraction is very fine-grained, and grows in significance, concentration and depth. Some alcohol warmth and power becomes noticeable, and this builds to carry through to a substantially long and grainy finish with tightly packed flavours. This is a full-bodied, seriously constructed, but fine-textured Chateauneuf-du-Pape with warmth and power, the flavours needing time to open out. Serve with slow-cooked game meat over the next 7-9+ years. 18.0/20 Dec 2012 RRP $75.00
