Domaine du Pegau ‘Cuvee Reservee’ Chateauneuf du Pape 2009

Grenache from France - Rhone
Review Date : 17-May-2012
85% Grenache, 9% Syrah, 4% Mourvedre and 2% other varieties, the wine aged 18 months in old foudre. Very dark, deep, black-red in colour, the nose is very full and densely packed, massively rich and ripe in savoury dark red fruit aromas along with funky, game-like brettanomyces. This is a powerful and full-bodied wine combining fully-ripened black fruits with dark herbs, savoury bacon and game, the brettanomyces dominant in flavour profile. The flavour depth is match by formidable extraction which drives the palate. This will keep a decade to 15 years plus by way of sheer power. However, whether one can accept the funkiness is another matter.  17.0/20  May 2012  RRP $99.00
