Domaine de Courteillac Bordeaux Supérieur 2009

Merlot from France - Bordeaux
Review Date : 25-Nov-2011
63 ha property near Castillon, Entre Deux Mers, with 25 ha of red varieties, restored by Stephane Asseo, now owned by negociants Bernard & Meneret, with Stephane Derenoncourt as consultant. 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, the wine aged 15 months in one-third new oak. Dark, purple-hued ruby-red colour, the nose is soft and gentle with ripe dark plum aromas lifted by violetty perfumes. On palate, this is very tight and shy, the fruit quite reticent, but showing vibrant primary dark plums. Oaking is sensitive and the flavours with floral elements. The tannin extraction is fine-grained and good acidity provides a focus and line. This shows the potential to become richer over the next 6-8 years. 17.5-/20 Nov 2011  RRP $27.50
