Domain Road Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc 2018, Central Otago

Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 20-Aug-2020
Bright, light straw-yellow with some depth, even throughout. The bouquet is fragranced with aromas of tropical pineapple, gooseberries, nettle, subtle underlying spices and savoury element. Medium-bodied, pineapple and subtle gooseberries melded with nettle and savoury tone; prickly spices lingers to a sustained finish. The mouthfeel is smooth and round-edged, flows with gentle yet vibrant acidity carries savoury minerals and prickly spices. The barrel used and lees stirring added to the creamy mouthfeel, along with a light layer of phenolic coating, interweaved a dusting of spices. This is a savoury Sauvignon Blanc with flavours of tropical fruit, nettle on a creamy and mineral flow. Match with pork croquette and Cioppino over the next 3-5 years. Handpicked, a portion whole-bunches pressed and the rest destemmed. Fermented in a mixture of stainless steel, older French oak barriques and one new barrique to 13.5% alc, 2.9 g/l RS. Partial lees stirred. 18.5/20 pts Aug 2020 RRP $23
