Domain Road ‘Defiance’ Bannockburn Central Otago Pinot Gris 2015

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 10-Mar-2016
☆☆☆☆☆
Hand-picked fruit from the ‘Defiance’ vineyard, WBP and fermented in stainless-steel with 14% in seasoned oak, the two lots blended after two months. The wine is 13.8% alc. and 9.7 g/L RS. Bright, light straw-yellow colour with slight green hues, lighter on the rim. The nose is gently full and voluminous with good depth of ripe white and yellow stonefruits entwined with subtle pear, honeysuckle and floral notes and nuances of nutty and flinty detail. Off-dry to taste and medium-bodied, the palate has softly rich, lively and fresh fruit flavours of stonefruits, pears, florals and honeysuckle, expressed with clarity and purity. The mouthfeel has a degree of unctuousness, balanced by fresh acid and a fine phenolic line which carries to wine to a soft finish of honey and flowers. This is a gently rich, off-dry Pinot Gris with stonefruit, pear and honeysuckle flavours and a fine line. Match with Asian and mildly spicy fare over the next 3+ years. 18.0/20 Mar 2016 RRP $25.00
