Dog Point ‘Section 94’ Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2012

Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 30-Nov-2014
Bright straw-yellow colour. This has a soft and gentle nose of ripe yellow stonefruits, somewhat shy in expression. On palate quite gentle in expression, but revealing a deep core with concentrated flavours of green stonefruits, spicy oak and herbs. The acidity is ripe and enhances the fruit sweetness and richness, unfolding more detail and subtle flinty interest in the glass, the flavours carrying through to a very long, lingering finish. Elegance with hidden power and concentration. 13.5% alc., 1.7g/L RS, 18 months in older French oak. 18.5/20 Oct 2014 RRP $35.00 Brilliant, even, green-hued straw-yellow colour, lighter on rim. This is very tightly concentrated and elegant on the nose, with aromas of nectarines, greengages and yellow stonefruits harmoniously entwined with delicate layers of gunflint, nuts and spicy oak. The fruit shows a piquant, steely freshness providing lift. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, concentrated and rich flavours of greengages and stonefruits are well-integrated with flint and spicy, nutty, smoky nuances from the barrel-ferment, lees and wild yeast. The complex flavours unfold in waves of interest on a palate with presence and smooth-flowing textures. The mouthfeel shows underlying acid liveliness that provides energy and linearity, carrying the wine to a very long and sustained spicy finish with bright fruit vitality. This is a lively, concentrated barrel-influenced Sauvignon Blanc with integrated layers of complexity. Match with seafood and poultry over the next 4 years. Fruit cropped at approx. 8 tonnes per hectare, fully barrel-fermented in seasoned French oak by indigenous yeasts to 13.5% alc. and 1.7 g/L RS, the wine undergoing very little batonnage and aged on lees in oak for 18 months. 18.5+/20 Apr 2014 RRP $35.00
