Dog Point Marlborough Chardonnay 2011

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 30-Nov-2014
Full, light golden colour with straw-yellow hues. This has a very concentrated and powerful nose with intense reductive flinty sulphide aromas, quite complete and in balance with strong underlying stonefruits, nuts, minerals and oak. The palate has richness, power and concentration. The palate presence and depth is sensational, as is the drive. The fruit extraction has the base for the complexing inputs, and along with it is phenolic texture and fresh, youthful acidity. A standout wine with the potential to show greater interest and layers of detail. 14.0% alc. and 0.8 g/L RS, 18 months in 15% new French oak. 19.5/20 Oct 2014 RRP $N/A Bright straw-yellow colour with light lemon-gold hues, pale on edge. This has an elegant and refined nose of ripe stonefruits, citrus fruits and nuts, complexed by harmoniously interwoven flinty sulphide reductive notes and lifted by white florals. Medium-full bodied, this is elegantly proportioned with concentrated flavours of white peaches, citrus fruits, nuts and minerals that emerge in waves on the palate. Excellent acidity enhances the richness and freshness of the mouthfeel and a delicate grainy, textured line carries the wine to a long, sustained finish with savoury, mealy, nutty finish with complex mineral and flinty notes. This is an elegantly concentrated and bright Chardonnay with balanced funky interest complementing the stonefruit flavours. Match with roasted chicken or pork over the next 4-5+ years. Approx. two-thirds Mendoza clone and one-third clone 95, hand-picked and WBP, fully barrel-fermented by indigenous yeasts to 14.0% alc., the wine undergoing batonnagge and MLF, being aged 18 months in French oak, 15% new. 18.5+/20 Apr 2013 RRP $35.00
