Discovery Point Martinborough Pinot Noir 2015

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Wairarapa & Wellington
Review Date : 23-Jan-2018
Garnet-red colour with a little depth, paler edged. The nose is finely concentrated with a taut and well-bound core of red berry fruit along with an amalgam of lifted red florals and savoury, spicy elements, and nutty oak. Some secondary game nuances emerge in the glass. Medium-bodied, the palate has a gently sweet and rich heart of savoury red berry fruits harmoniously entwined with red florals, dried herbs, and spicy, nutty oak. The fruit has depth and intensity. The palate is soft-textured with fine-grained tannin extraction and ripe acidity, and the wine carries smoothly to an elegant, lingering finish. This is an elegant, gently rich, fine-textured, savoury Pinot Noir with red fruits and spicy, game-like detail. Serve with mushroom dishes, risotto and game meats over the next 4 years. Fruit from the ‘upper terrace’, indigenous yeast fermented with 20% whole bunches and a high proportion of whole berries to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 15 days on skins post ferment and aged 9 months in 1 and 2 y.o. French oak barriques. 17.5/20 Jan 2018 RRP $24.95
