Discovery Point Martinborough Pinot Noir 2014

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Wairarapa & Wellington
Review Date : 21-Apr-2016
Moderately dark ruby-red colour with garnet hues with a hint of brick at the edge. This is firm and well-packed with aromas of savoury dark-red berry fruits entwined with subtle earthy, dried herb and nutty oak note, unfolding spice elements. Medium-full bodied, soft and gently sweet, rich and succulent flavours of savoury soft-red berry fruits feature on the palate, and unfold subtle layers of earth and dried herbs and oak notes. The mouthfeel is very harmonious with soft and supple tannin extraction and integrated acidity contributing to the smooth flow. A little alcohol power emerges, adding to the drive. Red florals, earth and spice nuances blossom as the wine leads to a seamless, lingering finish. This is a soft, smooth-flowing Pinot Noir with harmoniously interwoven flavours of savoury red fruits, dried herbs and earth. Match with wild duck and pork over the next 4 years. Pinot Noir fruit from mature vines on the "upper terrace just outside Martinborough”, fermented with 20% whole bunches to 14.0% alc., the wine aged in 1 and 2 y.o. French oak barriques. 17.5/20 Apr 2016 RRP $29.99
