Chardonnay from South Africa
Review Date : 20-Oct-2016
Bright, even, light straw-yellow colour with some depth, lighter on the edge. The nose is elegantly concentrated with deep and intense aromas soft white stonefruits melded harmoniously with flinty and minerally lees elements, and subtle creamy and nutty oak notes. The freshness of the fruit expression is the feature. Medium-full bodied, the palate is tightly bound and concentrated with sweetly rich flavours of white stonefruits and citrus fruit, finely balanced by flinty lees and reductive detail. The fruit richness is enhanced by the fresh and crisp acidity. The wine flows along a fine-textured line leading to a stonefruit, nutty and flinty detailed, lingering, dry finish. This is a tightly bound, sweetly layered stonefruity Chardonnay with fine, complexing lees and nutty oak on a zesty, fine-textured, dry palate. Serve with seafood, poultry and pork over the next 3-4 years. Fruit from the Western Cape including Stellenbosch, Durbanville and Elgin Valley, hand-picked 25% WBP, and fermented partially with indigenous yeasts to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 8 months in stainless-steel barrels and French oak, the barrel portions undergoing MLF. 18.5-/20 Oct 2016 RRP $30.00 Brilliant light straw-yellow colour, paler on the rim.
