DeMorgenzon ‘DMZ’ Stellenbosch Syrah 2016

Syrah from South Africa
Review Date : 23-Jun-2018
Dark, deep, purple-hued ruby-red colour, youthful in appearance. The nose is elegant and firmly concentrated with a tight, but fine core of black berried fruits and black pepper melded with some minerally reduction and black earth notes. Medium-full bodied, the palate is finely presented with smooth and harmoniously interwoven flavours of black fruits unfolding nuances of dark raspberries, black pepper and a little mineral reduction complexity. The palate has a seamless flowing core with very fine textures and line, with some piquant acidity providing tension, and the tannin extraction is soft, supple and integrated. The wine carries to an elegant, lingering finish of dark raspberries and minerals. This is a refined, smooth-flowing and supple Syrah with black fruits and complexing minerally reduction. Match with roasted game meat dishes over the next 4-5 years. 100% Syrah from DeMogenzon farm, Stellenboschkloof, vines planted 2004, hand-picked and destemmed and indigenous yeast fermented with a small portion of whole bunches to 13.63% alc., the wine spending 12 months in small French oak barrels and 3000 L foudre, 10% new oak. 17.5+/20 Jun 2018 RRP $30.00
