DeMorgenzon ‘DMZ’ Stellenbosch Chardonnay 2017

Chardonnay from South Africa
Review Date : 23-Jun-2018
Bright straw-yellow colour with lemon-green hues, paler on the rim. The nose is elegant with soft and rounded, well-packed aromas of ripe white and yellow stonefruits melded harmoniously with subtle notes of creamy barrel-ferment and lifted nutty oak, enlivened by fresh, flinty lees elements. Medium-full bodied, the palate has a gently full and rounded core with softly-packed flavours of stonefruits integrated with a little creamy and nutty oak, unfolding flinty lees detail. The palate possesses moderate richness and is up-front, balanced by fresh, clean acidity. The palate flows along a light phenolic-textured line with some alcohol drive, carrying the wine to a firm finish. This is a moderately rich Chardonnay with stonefruit and nutty oak flavours and flinty lees detail on a fresh palate with some texture and drive. Match with most white meat dishes and seafood over the next 3+ years. 100% Chardonnay from Stellenbosch, 25% WBP and fermented partially with indigenous yeasts in tank and barrel to 13.84% alc., the wine aged 8 months on lees in tank and barrel, the oaked portion undergoing MLF. 18.0/20 Jun 2018 RRP $30.00
