Delta Merlot 2020, Hawke’s Bay

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 12-Feb-2021
Deep ruby-purple with depth, lighter purple on the rim. The nose is softly full and upfront, nuances of dark plums in the lead, melded blackberries, cedar and coffee beans. Medium-full bodied, succulent aromas of plums, blackberries, intermix red berries; enriched by cedar and roasted coffee beans. The palate is full with ripe tannin extraction lends a positive grippy-textured mouthfeel; lively acidity lightened up the rich palate, lingering with savoury tannin. This is an upfront and voluminous Merlot with succulent fruit and cedary oak details on a rich mouthfeel. Match with grilled meat and Chili con carne over the next 3 years. Fermented to 13% alc, aged in tanks and French oak for 9 months. 17.5/20 pts (88 pts) Feb 2021 RRP $20
