Delta Estate Hatters Hill Gimblett Gravels Cabernet Franc 2021, Hawke’s Bay

Cabernet Franc from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 14-Mar-2023
Deep, full purple-ruby, slightly lighter on edge. This has a lifted, fragrant bouquet with aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, plum, tobacco leaf, violet and spice. Full-bodied, blackberry, blackcurrant, and plum aromas interweaved with violet, tobacco leaf, clove and nutmeg. The mouthfeel is tight with dry, fine-grained tannins and grip, unfolding black tea aroma. Lively acidity enlivens the dark-toned, rich palate and carries a long, lingering finish. This Cabernet Franc possesses ripe, dark fruit with tobacco leaf and spice on a structured, rich mouthfeel that reflects the Gimblett Gravels. Match with Wagyu skirt steak and mutton stew over the next 5+ years. Fruit from a single vineyard, held cold for 4 days before inoculation, after alcohol fermentation, pressed and racked off gross lees to 10% new French oak and 90% seasoned French oak, aged for 11 months. 13.5% alc, vegan friendly. 18.5+/20 pts (94 pts) Mar 2023 RRP $34
