Decibel Pinot Noir 2019, Martinborough

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Wairarapa & Wellington
Review Date : 10-Feb-2022
Deep, ruby-black with depth and a purple hue, lighter on the rim. The wine is dense on the nose, packed with black plums and cherries, melded with medicinal herb and sweet spice. Medium-full bodied, concentrated aromas of black plums and cherries interweave rosemary, liquorice roots along with cloves and cinnamon bark. Savoury nuance lingers with spices; powdery tannin drives smoothly with lively acidity to a long finish. This is a savoury Pinot Noir with excellent concentration and acid balance; it shows black fruit and medicinal herb development on a silky mouthfeel. Match with lamb and pork stew over the next 5+ years. Fruit from an organically run, dry-farmed vineyard in Martinborough, handpicked, some whole bunch (5-50%), fermented in 1-3 ton fermenter to 14% alc, aged in French oak barriques for 10 months approx, 15% new. Further aged in bottle for 18 months. 18.5+/20 pts (94 pts) Feb 2022 RRP $35
