Decibel Malbec 2019, Hawke’s Bay

Malbec from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 10-Feb-2022
Deep, inky dark purple with a ruby hue, lighter on the rim. The wine has a sweet bouquet, gently full with underlying power, dark plums, blackberries entwined with vanilla and cedar. Full-bodied, dry to taste, plums and blackberries show purity, spice unfolding, clove, star anise, vanilla and cinnamon, along with cedar. Smooth-grained tannins provide a dusty grip carry spice to a fragrant and savoury finish. The wine is approachable with a depth of concentration and a sense of purity. Match with steak & mushroom pie and grilled red meat over the next 5+ years. Handpicked organic certified Malbec from Gimblett Gravels, whole bunch pressed, wild-fermented in 2-ton fermenters for 17 days, post-ferment maceration for 18 days, aged in old oak puncheons for 21 months, 5% new oak. 14% alc. 18.5+/20 pts (94 pts) Feb 2022 RRP $32
