Decibel ‘Amplified’ Hawke’s Bay Red 2014

Blended Red from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 23-Oct-2016
Very dark, deep, saturated black-red with purple hues, youthful in appearance. This has a full, deep and richly ripe nose of blackberry and boysenberry fruit along with black plums, lifted by some volatility, unveiling a core with an amalgam of black fruits, herbs, ink and earth. Fullish-bodied, the palate is packed with rich, sweet and fulsome flavours of blackberries, boysenberries and plums. The flavours are mouthfilling, showing some lift and volatility. The tannins are robust and grainy, providing plenty of structure and grip, with underlying fresh acidity providing freshness and cut. The wine carries to a rugged and structured finish with sustained blackberry and plum fruit notes. This is a robust, sweet blackberry, boysenberry and plum fruited Malbec-based wine with some volatile lift and plenty of structure and grip. Match with slow-cooked game meat over the next 7-8+ years. A blend of 85% Malbec and 15% Merlot from inland vineyard sites, fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged in seasoned French oak barriques. 18.0/20 Oct 2016 RRP $28.00
