de la terre ‘Reserve’ Hawke’s Bay Viognier 2014

Viognier from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 20-Jul-2015
Full, bright, light golden-hud straw-yellow colour with some depth, lighter on rim. This has a softly full and voluminous nose with harmoniously melded aromas of ripe yellow stonefruitsm orange zest and exotic floral elements, building in depth and intensity, revealing complex, creamy, nutty barrel-ferment and flinty lees notes. Dry to taste and medium-full bodied, the palate is rich and broad with mouthfilling flavours of sweetly ripe citrus fruits and savoury apricots. The palate has good depth and density, unfolding layers of creamy barrel-ferment and nutty oak flavours. Exotic yellow florals and complexing flinty nuances add interest and detail. The mouthfeel is lush and rounded, with soft acidity enhancing the unctuousness and weight. The wine flows smoothly, carrying to a long, integrated finish. This is a soft, luscious and deeply flavoured Viognier with savoury and exotic flavours and a creamy mouthfeel. Serve with Mediterranean cuisine over the next 4+ years. Hand-picked fruit from ‘Block 2’ of the ‘HCE’ vineyard, WBP, undergoing hyperoxidation and fully barrel-fermented in seasoned oak to 13.5% alc., the wine aged on lees. 1,440 bottles made. 18.5/20 Jul 2015 RRP $40.00
