de la terre Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2013

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 20-Jul-2015
Very dark, purple-hued black-red colour, lighter on edge. This has a full and open nose with soft, voluminous aromas of ripe, fragrant, blackberry fruit entwined with plum, liquorice and soy sauce notes, lifted by black and violet florals, unveiling black pepper and earthy elements with aeration. Medium-full bodied, full, rich and up-front flavours of ripe blackberry fruit feature on the palate, along with savoury earth, game and black pepper notes. The fruit sweetness is balanced by good grainy tannin extraction and grip providing texture and structure, and a fulsome, dry mouthfeel. The oaking is subtle, adding to the spiciness, which is carried by the tannins to a long and sustained, savoury finish. This is a full, up-front, sweet, black-fruited Syrah complexed by savoury earthy notes, and supported by plenty of tannin structure. Serve with slow-cooked game meat over the next 7-9+ years. MS04012 fruit from the ‘Syrah Terrace’ of the ‘HCE’ vineyard, from 11 y.o. vines, fermented to 13.3% alc., the wine undergoing micro-oxygenation and spending 30 days on skins, then aged 14 months in French oak barriques. 18.0/20 Jul 2015 RRP $30.00
