de la terre Hawke’s Bay Montepulciano 2013

Montepulciano from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 20-Jul-2015
Very dark, near impenetrable black-hued purple-red colour, very youthful in appearance. This has a very fresh, bright, elegantly concentrated nose of primary fruits, showing blackberries, raspberries and redcurrants, lifted by aromatic herbs and dark red floral elements. The clarity and intensity of fruit is a feature. Medium-full bodied, the palate is elegant in proportion and tightly bound with a vibrant amalgam of fresh dark raspberries, redcurrants and black cherry fruit entwined with nuances of fresh herbs and dark red florals. The fruit is underlined by fine, powdery tannin extraction and grip, and the mouthfeel has vitality from a fresh line of acidity. This has energy and drive, and the palate carries through to a lively, brisk finish with flowery tannins. This is a tightly bound, elegant Montepulciano with bright, vibrant, aromatic primary fruit, flowery tannin structure and fresh acidity. Match with Mediterranean cuisine over the next 5-7 years. Hand-picked fruit from the ‘HCE’ vineyard, fermented to 13.9% alc., the wine undergoing micro-oxygenation, spending 32 days on skins and aged 15 months in one-third new French oak barriques. 879 bottles made. 18.0+/20 Jul 2015 RRP $40.00
