De Bortoli ‘Regional Reserve’ Heathcote Shiraz 2014

Syrah from Australia - Victoria
Review Date : 14-Sep-2016
Very full, dark, deep, black-hued ruby-red colour with youthful purple hues, a little lighter on the rim. The nose is softly full and gently voluminous with aromas of dark raspberry and blackberry fruit entwined with spice notes, black pepper and nuances of whole berry fermentation jam and confectionary elements. Medium-full bodied, the sweet flavours of dark raspberries and blackberries are reserved in expression, with fine-grained, flowery tannins prevailing, and filling the mouth. The extraction is allied to fresh acidity, and the firm, brisk mouthfeel carries the fruit and nuances of spice, florals and jam along a positive line, leading to a long, firm-textured finish with raspberry and jam notes. This is a dark raspberry and jam-nuanced Shiraz with firm, fine-grained extraction and crisp acidity carrying the flavours. Match with Middle Eastern lamb dishes over the next 3-4 years. Fruit from the Northern Heathcote, destemmed and fermented to 14.5% alc., with one-third of the wine aged 5 months in seasoned oak casks. 16.5/20 Sep 2016 RRP $16.99
