Dartmoor Road Hawke’s Bay Merlot/Cabernet Franc 2007

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 16-Sep-2011
76% Merlot and 24% Cabernet Franc from the ‘Dartmoor Road' site, hand-picked and fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 14 months in 20% new French oak. Moderately deep ruby-garnet colour. This has an elegant bouquet of savoury red berry fruits aromas with dried herb, earth, cedar and gamey notes. Medium-full-bodied, this is tightly constructed with fine, drying tannin extraction framing the flavours of savoury red berry fruit, dried herbs and secondary game-like notes. There is some fruit sweetness, lifted by good levels of acidity, and the wine finishes firmly. A wine with drying extract, developing secondary flavour interest and some fruit sweetness that will make it a match with casseroles and hearty red meat dishes over the next 4-5 years. 16.0+/20 Sep 2011 RRP $28.00
