Cuilleron ‘Madiniere’ Cote-Rotie 2010

Syrah from France - Rhone
Review Date : 03-Jan-2015
Deep, black-red colour with lighter purple hues on edge. The bouquet is somewhat shy, quite elegant and smaller-scale, with a heart of aromatic red and violet floral perfumes and ripe black and red fruits, revealing savoury game and funky brettanomyces elements with aeration. Medium-bodied, the palate is open and broad with sweet, ripe, lush flavours of dark red fruits melded with savoury, meaty game and earthy notes. There is balancing acid drive, with the tannins growing in prominence as the wine carries through to the drying finish. Here, the brettanomyces is beginning to prevail over the fruit richness and expression. Drink now and over the next 3 years. 100% Syrah, from ‘Les Roziers’ and ‘Les Rochains’, Cote Brune, fermented with some whole bunch to 12.5% alc., cuvaison c.21 days, the wine aged approx. 18 months in 50% new oak. 875 cases made. 17.0/20 Nov 2014 RRP $125.00
