Crown Range Cellar ‘China Girl’ Central Otago Pinot Noir 2015

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 27-Aug-2016
Dark, deep ruby-red colour with youthful purple hues on the rim. The nose is finely proportioned with intense and well-concentrated aromas of dark-red berry fruits harmoniously layered with liquorice and mineral notes, unfolding thyme herb and complexing whole bunch savoury stalk aromatics. Medium-bodied, the palate is elegantly concentrated and finely packed with soft flavours of dark-red berry fruit complexed by whole bunch stalk and thyme herb notes, unfolding some liquorice detail. The fruit has sweetness and vitality which is balanced by taut, fine-grained tannin structure lending texture to the mouthfeel, and integrated acidity. The wine carries to an elegant, sustained finish of dark fruits, herbs and liquorice. This is an elegantly concentrated Pinot Noir with complexing herb and whole cluster notes, liquorice nuances and a fine-grained structure. Match with lamb, beef and venison over the next 6-7+ years. Pinot Noir fruit from ‘Chinaman’s Terrace, Bendigo, clones 667, 777 and 5, vines planted in 2006, predominantly indigenous fermented with 38% whole bunches to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 11.5 months in 35% new French oak. 18.5-/20 Aug 2016 RRP $64.99
