Crossroads ‘Winemakers Collection’ Gimblett Gravels Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2013

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 13-Nov-2014
Very dark, deep, near impenetrable black-red colour with youthful purple hues on rim. This is elegantly concentrated with aromas of ripe blackberry fruit and black pepper, along with gentle layers of spices, iron-earth and violetty perfumes, revealing toasty oak notes in the glass. Medium-full bodied, the palate is elegantly proportioned with restrained, but succulent and sweetly ripe flavours of ripe dark red and black berry fruits, layered with Asian spices, dark-red and violet florals and toasty oak. The fruit is supported by supple, fine-grained tannins and the wine flows effortlessly and with fresh acid vitality. The mouthfeel is softly textured, the extraction and depth growing in presence, carrying to a long spice and toasty finish. This is an elegant, finely concentrated, restrained black fruited Syrah with toasty oak seasoning. Match with lamb, beef and venison over the next 6-8 years. A selection of the best 16 barrels. 100% Syrah from the ‘Elms’ vineyard in the Gimblett Gravels, fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 14 months in 25% new French oak barriques. 18.5-/20 Nov 2014 RRP $39.99
